The blessing of God’s salvation is the core belief of who we are as believers. We cannot earn it, we don’t deserve it, but because of His great love He offers this gift to all men. When we accept this gift, we realize that we have new life and that we do not need to work for God’s approval – we work out of His approval.

“ For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. – Ephesians 2:8-10 ESV
